BEYOND ACADEMICS

At St. John’s, we believe education goes far beyond the classroom. A wide range of co-curricular programmes, activities, and support systems are woven into school life to nurture every child’s intellectual, emotional, physical, and creative growth. These opportunities help students discover their strengths, build character, and develop into confident, balanced individuals ready for the future.

ABACUS

Our Abacus classes introduce students to the ancient tool of calculation, training them to perform arithmetic operations with speed and accuracy. Regular practice not only enhances numerical ability but also develops concentration, visual memory, and logical thinking. By gradually transitioning from the physical abacus to mental calculations, children strengthen both their left and right brain functions, gaining confidence in mathematics and sharper cognitive skills.

VEDIC MATHEMATICS

Vedic Mathematics introduces students to ancient Indian techniques that simplify complex calculations into quick, easy steps. These methods improve speed, accuracy, and flexibility in problem-solving while reducing the fear of mathematics. By mastering mental strategies for multiplication, division, algebra, and more, children develop confidence and enjoy a deeper connection with numbers.

CLUBS

At St. John’s School, clubs provide students with opportunities to explore their interests, discover new talents, and grow beyond academics. From creative pursuits such as the Literary, Language, Book, Art & Craft, Music, Dance, and Cultural Clubs to knowledge-focused groups like the Science, Quiz, G.K., IT, and Commerce Clubs, every child can find a platform to learn and express themselves. We also nurture critical skills and values through the MUN, Environment, and EVS Clubs, while encouraging practical learning in the Cookery and Abacus Clubs. These diverse clubs help students build confidence, teamwork, and leadership while enjoying meaningful experiences.

STEM PROGRAM

At St. John’s, STEM learning is designed to make classroom concepts come alive. In the primary years, students engage with Eduvate Kits and hands-on activities that transform theory into exciting discoveries. In high school, our partnership with Raak Sapphire ensures that the STEM program is closely aligned with the ICSE syllabus, helping students connect textbook knowledge with real-world applications. From building circuits with LEDs and resistors to exploring photosynthesis, magnetism, or the dual nature of light, students gain a deeper understanding of science through practical experiences.

REMEDIAL CLASSES

At St. John’s, we ensure that every learner gets the support they need to succeed. Our remedial programs are designed to bridge gaps, strengthen understanding, and build confidence.

General Remedial Classes: Conducted daily after school for all grades, these sessions help students review lessons, clarify doubts, and reinforce concepts.

Special Remedials: Tailored support for students who require extra attention in specific subjects, focusing on individual learning needs.

Summer Remedials: Intensive sessions held during the summer break to assist struggling learners, giving them the opportunity to strengthen their foundation before the new academic year begins.

COUNSELLING AND STUDENT SUPPORT

Our counselling and student support services nurture both the emotional and academic growth of every child. Students can share their challenges in a confidential, caring space through individual sessions, whether related to academics, friendships, or personal wellbeing. With an open-door policy, they are always encouraged to seek guidance freely.

We also conduct regular workshops on relevant issues such as study strategies, time management, relationships, and mental resilience. These sessions provide practical tools that empower students to handle real-life challenges with confidence while maintaining both academic success and emotional wellbeing.

Career Assessment and Guidance

At St. John’s, we believe that preparing students for life beyond school is as important as their academic journey.

Comprehensive Career Assessment
In Grade 8, every student undergoes a detailed career assessment that generates a personalized report of over 70 pages. This report highlights:

  • The best-suited career options based on the student’s strengths and interests

  • Medium-level options they may explore

  • Pathways they should avoid, based on their profile
This scientific assessment equips both students and parents with a clear understanding of future possibilities and informed choices.

Career Guidance Workshops
From Grade 9 to 12, students attend structured workshops designed to provide clarity and direction. These sessions, tailored separately for Science and Commerce streams, help students:

  • Identify their aspirations and career goals

  • Understand educational and skill-building pathways

  • Plan step-by-step strategies to achieve their ambitions

Through this integrated approach, our students gain the confidence and insight needed to make wise decisions about their higher education and careers.

MUSIC, DANCE, ART and SUPW

At St. John’s, we nurture the creative and practical abilities of every child alongside academics. Our Music and Dance programs allow students to explore rhythm, melody, and movement, expressing themselves through sound and motion while connecting with emotions and stories. The Art program encourages imagination and visual creativity, giving students the freedom to experiment with different mediums and bring their ideas to life.

Through SUPW (Socially Useful Productive Work), students discover the value of practical skills, collaboration, and contributing meaningfully to their surroundings. Activities are designed to teach problem-solving and organization while fostering a sense of responsibility and care for the community.

Together, these programs help students express themselves, engage with the world, and grow as thoughtful, capable individuals, blending creativity, skill, and purpose.

EDUCATIONAL AND FUN TRIP

At St. John’s, we believe trips are an important part of learning and growing. Educational trips give students the chance to connect classroom lessons with real-life experiences, whether it is visiting museums, science centers, or places of historical importance. They make learning more meaningful and memorable.

Fun trips are equally valuable, offering children the joy of exploring new places together, building friendships, and creating memories that last well beyond their school years.

COMPETITIONS

At St. John’s, competitions are seen as opportunities for students to showcase their talents, challenge themselves, and grow in confidence. We proudly host our annual interschool event, “Echoes of Expression,” which brings together participants from many schools in diverse categories such as art, science, abacus, debate, music, storytelling, and elocution. This platform not only provides rich exposure but also inspires our students to excel beyond the classroom.

Our students also actively participate in competitions hosted by other schools across a wide range of fields and have consistently returned with accolades, making us proud.

In addition, the school conducts regular intraschool and inter-house competitions, encouraging participation right from the nursery level. These events nurture healthy competition, develop essential life skills, and build the confidence needed to face challenges alongside their peers.

EVENTS

At St. John’s, events are celebrated as opportunities for students to learn, express, and grow beyond academics. Every occasion, whether national, regional, cultural, or school-based, is thoughtfully organized to enrich the student experience.

National Events such as Independence Day and Republic Day instill pride, respect for our nation, and awareness of its history. Regional celebrations like Kannada Rajyotsava deepen students’ appreciation of their cultural roots, while religious festivals, from Diwali and Christmas to Eid and Sankranti, help children develop a spirit of inclusivity and respect for diversity, nurturing a truly secular mindset.

We also mark special days such as Teachers’ Day and Children’s Day, which strengthen bonds of gratitude, respect, and joy within the school.

Among our most anticipated events is SCICRA, our Science, Commerce, Art, Computer Science, and Mathematics exhibition, which also integrates entrepreneurial ideas. This platform allows students to present their creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical application.

Our Annual Day is a spectacular celebration, with 100 percent student participation. Each year, it is woven around a central theme, showcasing a glorious display of talent in music, dance, drama, and creative expression.

Finally, the Valedictory Function marks a memorable milestone for our outgoing students. It is a heartfelt celebration of their journey at St. John’s, their achievements, and the values they carry forward into the world.

Through these diverse events, our students gain confidence, cultural awareness, teamwork, leadership, and stage presence.

VALUE BUILDING

At the heart of everything we do at St. John’s is a strong emphasis on values. Each day begins with the school assembly, where a teacher shares reflections on an essential value, followed by the school counsellor’s talk on themes that build character and resilience. Every day at St. John’s begins with the “Value of the Day,” where moral lessons are conveyed through real-life anecdotes, activities, and guided reflection, helping students internalize these principles in a meaningful way.

Our Emotional Intelligence programme is equipping students with the skills of self-awareness, empathy, and self-regulation, giving them practical tools to manage their emotions and mental health effectively. In the higher grades, Project CACA addresses critical adolescent concerns in a manner that is both accessible and empowering, enabling students to navigate challenges with confidence.

The school’s core values - grit, growth mindset, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills- are woven into every aspect of learning and student life. By integrating these values consistently, we ensure that our students not only excel academically but also develop into compassionate, resilient, and thoughtful individuals who strive to be the best version of themselves.
