SPORTS
At St. John’s, sports form an integral part of our holistic education. From the early years to senior grades, students are encouraged to develop physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, and resilience through a wide range of games and athletic activities.
St. John’s students have excelled in competitions at zonal, regional, and national levels, winning gold, silver, and bronze medals across age groups in athletics and team sports such as Kabaddi, Kho Kho, Handball, and Football. Several students have been selected for regional and national championships, reflecting the school’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent and competitive spirit.

SPORTS EXTRAVAGANZA
Our annual three-day Sports Extravaganza is one of the most eagerly awaited events in the school calendar, engaging students from Nursery to Grade 12. Spread over three action-packed days, the event primarily focuses on athletics, including running, jumping, and throwing events, but also incorporates fun and inclusive activities for our youngest learners.
The extravaganza provides every child from tiny tots to senior students an opportunity to participate, showcase their skills, and experience the thrill of healthy competition. Each day is carefully organized to ensure that events are age-appropriate, with teachers and coaches guiding students through warm-ups, practice runs, and final competitions.
Winners in every category are awarded medals and certificates, recognizing not only achievement but also effort, determination, and sportsmanship. Beyond medals, the event fosters team spirit, resilience, and self-confidence, helping students develop a lifelong appreciation for physical activity and healthy competition.
Sports Through the Years
At St. John’s, sports are an essential part of our holistic education, helping students develop physical fitness, coordination, teamwork, and resilience from an early age. Our comprehensive sports program is designed to grow with students, starting with fun and engaging activities in the early years, progressing to structured team sports and athletics in primary and middle school, and culminating in advanced training and competitive opportunities for senior students.
Early Foundations (Pre-Primary)
Our youngest learners develop hand-eye coordination, balance, and motor skills through fun, structured games led by a dedicated sports teacher. These activities lay the foundation for agility, teamwork, and a lifelong love for physical fitness.

Primary School (Grades 1–2)
Students are introduced to traditional games such as Kho Kho and Kabaddi, which build agility, stamina, and cooperative play. These early experiences prepare children for participation in team sports and competitive events as they grow.
Primary and High School (Grades 3–12)
From Grade 3 onwards, students at St. John’s are exposed to a diverse range of sports that build skill, stamina, and teamwork. The curriculum includes traditional games such as Kho Kho and Kabaddi, as well as team sports like Handball, Football, Basketball, Throwball, Rugby, and Volleyball. Students also develop individual athletic skills through running, jumping, and throwing events. This structured approach ensures that every child has the opportunity to explore different sports, improve their physical abilities, and develop a lifelong love for fitness and healthy competition.

We also incorporate theory classes in Physical Education, so students not only play the games on the ground but also learn the technicalities, rules, and strategies. This knowledge strengthens their gameplay, improves decision-making, and builds a deeper understanding of the sport.
Sports as an Academic Subject (Grades 9–12)
At St. John’s, Sports is also offered as an optional subject for students from Grades 9 to 12, in line with the ICSE curriculum. This allows senior students to pursue physical education academically, gaining a deeper understanding of sports theory, training methods, fitness principles, and game strategies alongside practical skills.
Offering Sports as a subject also recognizes the importance of physical education in holistic development, highlighting our commitment to nurturing students who are healthy, disciplined, confident, and strategically minded both on and off the field.
After-School and Summer Sports Training
Students can further enhance their skills through after-school coaching and summer camps, which provide specialized training in Cricket, Handball, Kho Kho, Kabaddi, and Rugby. These sessions focus on technique, strategy, and competitive readiness, giving children the opportunity to refine their skills and gain confidence in multiple sports.
